Curious About Training to be an Alexander Technique Teacher as a Musician and/or Music Educator?

Ask anyone who has trained to be a teacher of the Alexander Technique and they’ll tell you – it’s a profoundly rewarding and challenging journey of personal discovery and transformation.

However, training to be an Alexander teacher is not a light commitment. It typically requires 1,200-1,600 training hours over 3-6 years (depending on the program). That’s akin to earning a college degree.

If you’ve ever considered training to be an Alexander teacher join MBMS director (and certified Alexander teacher) Peter Jacobson for this free informational session about all things Alexander teacher training.

Here’s what you’ll learn:

  • A brief history of the two main lineages of the Alexander Technique (and why this matters for musicians and music educators)
  • The benefits and drawbacks of different training models (including hybrid models that use online learning)
  • Why it’s so hard to make a living as a full-time Alexander Technique teacher (and what to do about it)
  • How the certification process works with the various professional organizations
  • The typical time and financial investment involved in teacher training
  • How to know if teacher training would fit into your existing life

There will also be time to for Q&A.

Disclaimer: MBMS does offer an Alexander teacher training course for musicians and music educators called MBMS Pro. During the session, Peter will be sharing about what the training pathway looks like for that program. However, please know this session is not designed to be a commercial for that program. Instead, it’s a way to educate you about the various lineages and teacher training models within the larger Alexander Technique field.
